Greg Cote of the Miami Herald wrote a column earlier this week and the headline was, ‘Getting Favre makes sense
for Dolphins’. I must admit at this time of year anything football is usually hard to come by and this article
made my day, at least the ten to fifteen minutes it took me to get through his article. Greg started off by
writing; “Brett Favre seems like he wants to parachute back into the NFL. They ought to be drawing a big ''X''
in the middle of the Dolphins' huddle and coaxing him to a soft landing right here in Miami.” As wonderful as that
sounds, I really don’t know that theres a real chance of that happening. Greg alos wrote; “I know that some of you
out there are saying of Favre becoming a Dolphin, ''It could never happen.'' But it could, and I'll tell you why.”
Well, here we go…
Here is another quote from Greg’s column, “I know some others are saying, ''It should never happen.'' But you're
wrong. And I'll tell you why on that, too. Remember that need + need = possibility.” I would say need + need + 1-16
season + a playoff drought that has lasted almost a decade and still don’t see a chance that Brett Favre will ever
wear aqua and orange. Well, maybe if he was in the stands wearing a jersey catching a game here in South Florida. I
wish there was a remote way that Miami could aquire the services of Brett Favre but there are a lot differences in
the offensive schemes for both Green Bay and Miami. Then there is the super huge problem, Miami is deffinitley not a
contender and probably won’t be for another two to three years. Brett Favre in reality only has about one or two more
years left in him.
Brett Favre is an animal on the football field and last years 90 plus quarterback rating was one of the highiest
in his career. There is no dought Brett is one tough football player but age at some point just starts to take it toll
on the body. We have all heard different scenarios about trading Jason Taylor to the Green Bay Packers for Brett Favre
and if there was any chance in the world that could happen, I would be all for it but the reality of the situation is
Brett only has a couple of more years and I don’t see him playing for any other team but one of the strong contenders
from last years playoff run. It was good while it lasted but it’s time to jump back into reality. Unfortunately,
training camp doesn’t open until the end of the month which means football is still about three weeks away. It was a
nice tease but that’s just what Greg Cotes article was a nice tease.
